In the Tundra, the nitrogen cycle allows the plants and animals to recieve the nitrogen they need.  This works by nitrogen in the air being fixated by bacteria in the ground.  The plants then absorb this nitrogen through their roots.  Animals that eat the plants recieve some of this nitrogen from the plants.  When both plants and animals die, through the process of decaying the nitrogen is released back into the air or into the ground.
